Alabama's state highways are, in some places, a portal to the past. While the state is eventually changing out the older designs with the updated designs , there are pockets where the older U.S. and state designs are still up. These designs are from the very last of the sixties and the seventies.
These older designs are commonly found in the downtown routes through the bigger cities, where the signs have suffered no physical damage. Birmingham is a real good example.
Most of these pictures are of the designs of days gone by. These are becoming more amd more scarce to find. I will eventually take pictures of the new designs, to compare to the designs of the past.
