History: Original Route:

Additional History:
. Until ~1964, N terminus was Fulton Rd from Government St
to just south of Brookley AFB, where it intersected Cedar Point Rd. 163 stayed on Cedar
Point Rd south to Dauphin Island, the entire route was renamed Dauphin Island Pkwy ~1967
or 68. About 1968, DOT took out the bridge over Middle Deer River and “temporarily”
detoured 163 across Hamilton Blvd (CR32) to the newly constructed Rangeline Rd Extension,
then south to Laurendine Rd, then east back to 163. After Middle Deer River became the
Theodore Ship Channel (with no replacement bridge ever built), the DOT left the detour
in place until Rangeline Rd was realigned and extended to US90 in Tillman’s Corner.
Rangeline Rd became AL193 and took over the part of 163 south of Hamilton Blvd.
